IncluSteps is for caregivers, often holding a baby in one hand. Making it easy for everyone to use is the whole point. Here's what we build toward, the supports that are always on, and how to tell us if something gets in your way.

What we build toward
IncluSteps is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, the legal floor for public agencies under the Americans with Disabilities Act. We aim for Level AAA wherever we can. We test the milestone, activity, report, and settings screens with a keyboard, a screen reader, and at phone, tablet, and laptop sizes.
Supports that are always on
- Large touch targets (at least 48px) so the app is easy to use with one hand.
- Full keyboard navigation, a skip-to-content link, and clear focus outlines on every button and control.
- Screen-reader labels on interactive elements.
- A high-contrast mode and a reduce-motion setting in Settings; the app also follows your device's “reduce motion” preference.
- Plain, everyday language (around a 5th–6th grade reading level), with no jargon on the screens you use day to day.
- Calm, low-glare colors on an off-white background, chosen to be easy on the eyes.
- Everything stays on your device. We never store your child's name, photo, or date of birth.
What we're still improving
We're always working to do better, including a full dark mode and Spanish-language screens. If you use assistive technology and hit a barrier, that's a bug to us. Please tell us so we can fix it quickly.
